NSA Bahrain’s MWR Earns 5-Star Accreditation

By Christina Johnson, NSA Public Affairs Office

Commander, Navy Installation Command (CNIC) awarded Naval Support Activity Bahrain’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program with the CNIC Five-Star Accreditation, Mar. 27.

NSA Bahrain is the only base in the Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia (EURAFSWA) region with an MWR that has been awarded this two-year accreditation.

“It is a fantastic feeling to be recognized,” said Chad Quinn, NSA Bahrain’s Fleet Readiness Director. “Over the past two years, this team has overcome some tremendous hurdles to get to where they are today.  I’m very proud of the work that this team has done.”

Five-star accreditation is the highest award an MWR program can receive from the CNIC MWR Accreditation Program, and it is based on a CNIC on-site inspection of the performance of Navy MWR Program Standards leadership, customer service, financial performance, personnel development, innovation and process improvement.

Established in 2010, the CNIC Five-Star Accreditation Program's goal is to increase program standards - the foundation of daily operations and reinforced by MWR leadership - and to recognize top performers.

“One of the coolest things about this team is that we really are a family – a big family – a big diverse family,” said Quinn.  “The MWR program has more than 275 employees who call 13 different nations home and identify with at least five different religions or faiths.”

The accreditation encompasses the Freedom Souq’s Fitness and Sports Center, Aquatics, Bowling Center, Community Recreation (Entertainment and Special Events, Outdoor Rentals, and Tickets and Travel), MWR Food and Beverage outlets, Liberty Center, Library, and movies.

Only 30 percent of all MWR programs throughout the Navy achieve the Five-Star Accreditation status.  “For a group this diverse to do what they do on a daily basis is simply amazing, and I am very proud to see them achieve Five-Star Accreditation status,” Quinn added.
